The force is strong with this one

(Mild spoilers ahead....see the dang movie already)

The Milwaukee Express have updated their promotional schedule to include a special Star Wars themed night for this Sunday’s match against the Ice Shack.

“With all the craziness and hubbub surrounding the new movie, we thought we should go get a piece of that pie,” said Seth Levine, executive vice president of marketing.  “Anything to get some more butts in seats.”

Music all night will be provided by the Cantina Band from Episode IV.

“Those are some great galactic musicians in that Cantina Band,” said resident music hipster Ryan Miller.  “This will be so much better than hearing that Fall Out Boy song again and again….”

In addition, goaltender Rodney Ravanelli will be sporting this sharp new R2D2 themed goalie mask.

“Hopefully I don’t play like R2D2…you know, just waking up for the last 5 minutes of the movie,” Ravanelli said.

Whoever gets the first shot on net will get to wear a Han Solo vest for the rest of the game, because, obviously, Han shot first.

“I’m also happy to announce that you’ll have the chance to meet and greet with Denis Lawson, who played Wedge Antilles in Episodes IV-VI,” Levine continued.  “Wedge is the only minor character to survive those three episodes, but reportedly turned down the opportunity to appear in Episode VII, suggesting that it would bore him.  We were somehow able to make a compelling argument that an appearance at a beer league hockey game WOULD NOT be boring.”

Not all of the planned promotions will go on as….planned.

“We had originally wanted to use light sabres as hockey sticks for this game,” Levine explained.  “And things were going good for a little while at practice this week, but the ice started getting all chopped up, and defenseman Dave Wiebelhaus got his hand slashed off his wrist.  So I guess Dave is going on the injury report with an upper-body injury.  In the movie, they put Luke back together pretty quickly, so I’m hopeful Dave will be ready to go for this weekend.”

And not everybody on the team is excited to partake in the Star Wars festivities.  Defenseman Eric Kent is the resident team Trekkie, and the force is definitely not strong with him.

“You know, Star Trek has come out with like, a million more movies than Star Wars.  But do any sports teams do Star Trek nights?  No.  It’s always freaking Star Wars.  Why?  Because Star Wars nerds are maniacs that come out in droves for anything that remotely rhymes with ‘Skywalker’.  Star Trek fans have more discerning taste.  Star Trek would never sell out to Disney.  Star Trek would never allow those gaping plot holes in the new movie.  But then again, Star Trek has standards, character development, and new ideas that boldly go where no movie has gone before.  You weirdos have fun with your nerdy Star Wars night.  I’m going to go beam myself somewhere else, thank you.”

“We find his lack of faith disturbing,” Levine says of Kent.
