Urban dictionary defines a hootenanny as “a party, most generally one that is, well, chock full of hoot, with just a little nanny.” For OWHL, the Hootenanny is our INCREDIBLY FUN end of season tournament.
The mixed level teams play 6 mini games (equivalent to 3 games). This year, there is a championship game on Sunday.
The intermediate/advanced level plays 3 games.
How do I sign up?
This year, you can sign up for the Hootenanny via this link https://ozaukeeicecenter.sportngin.com/register/form/911885709
The individual player fee is $45. Sign up early. This tournament fills up FAST!
To keep teams balanced, we only have a limited number of spots at each individual skill level of play. You will register as a novice, intermediate, or advanced skater or goalie. If your registration level shows as “sold out”, please scroll to the bottom of the registration to get on the waitlist. We may be able to move skaters around to accommodate your level of play, so get on that waitlist.
What team will I play for?
We will assign you to a team. You may make a friend request. You will be placed on a team based on several factors including your skill level, balance of the teams, and available spots (first come, first serve). We will place you on one of the following teams:
When are the games?
Games for the mixed level may start as early as 5:00pm on Friday, April 12th. Games on Saturday, April 13th start in the morning and continue into the afternoon. The championship games start at 10:15am Sunday, April 14th and end at 1:15pm. (Times are tentative)
Intermediate/high level teams have games Friday, April 12th starting at 7:00pm, Saturday, April 13th between 4:30pm and 6:30pm, and Sunday, April 14th between 9:00am and 12:30pm. (Times are tentative)
I’ve heard about the big party on Saturday night. Can you tell me more?
You do not want to miss this! The Hootenanny planning committee knows how to throw a party!!!!! After the games on Saturday night, the teams (OWHL and guests) head to a party. We typically secure an outside event space, hire dueling DJs, and cater dinner. The committee is still planning, and we will let you know more when they iron out the details.
Why is this tournament so much fun?
The weekend is full of laughter, camaraderie, and a little bit of chaos. It’s fun because approximately 150 female hockey players play 24 games of hockey in approximately 48 hours. People are constantly coming and going in the hallways. We play hockey together. We eat together. We dance together. Someone described the weekend as Summer Camp for adults. There are so many fun activities throughout the weekend.
